{"id":446,"date":"2023-05-26T16:14:51","date_gmt":"2023-05-26T15:14:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/maryfreemanboardman.com\/?p=446"},"modified":"2023-05-26T16:14:51","modified_gmt":"2023-05-26T15:14:51","slug":"i-love-books","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maryfreemanboardman.com\/?p=446","title":{"rendered":"I LOVE BOOKS!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"112\" class=\"wp-image-447\" style=\"width: 150px;\" src=\"https:\/\/maryfreemanboardman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/1953e-bookmobile-300x223-1.jpg\" alt=\"\">Books have always been part of my life.\u00a0 Back when I was a child, the library had what we called a \u201cTraveling Library.\u201d\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t fancy at all.\u00a0 Just a large box van with shelves filled with books.\u00a0 It came around every few weeks.\u00a0 We were allowed to climb the steps into it and wander along its shelves until we found the perfect book to check out and read until the next time it came around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I always checked out the number of books allowed per customer and usually by the end of the second day, I had read them all.\u00a0 Didn\u2019t matter to me in the least.\u00a0 I just started over again.\u00a0 I loved the books.\u00a0 I loved the way they smelled.\u00a0 I loved the way they felt.\u00a0 I was totally addicted to them.\u00a0 Still am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We lived out in the country.\u00a0 Trips into town were limited to once every two weeks.\u00a0 My time at the actual library was very limited.\u00a0 If someone would have thrown some food and water my way, every once in a while, I could have lived quite happily in the library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I can still remember walking up those stairs.\u00a0 I was awe struck each time I opened the library door.\u00a0 That first smell of books as I walked in was wonderful.\u00a0 I would walk up to the section I wanted and run my fingers across the spines.\u00a0 It was sheer pleasure.\u00a0 Then, to actually hold any book I wanted in my hands had to have been something akin to an alcoholic\u2019s first taste of liquor after not having any for a few weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Writers like Louis L\u2019Amour, Zane Grey, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Agatha Christie, Barbara Cartland, to name just a few, all went home with me at some point.&nbsp; They still do.&nbsp; Plus hundreds of others since that time so long ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once I started reading, I seemed to check out of this world and into the book world.&nbsp; I can remember numerous times when riding the school bus home after school, I would start reading and I would be so engrossed in the story, the bus driver, after going three stops beyond my getting off point, would finally get my attention and tell me he thought maybe I should get off the bus.&nbsp;
